Drain clearing · Dallas-Fort Worth

Insurance calls this flood water.

Once rainwater hits the ground, insurance usually treats it as flood water, and most homeowner policies don't cover it. So keep it moving away from your slab. Most of the time, that starts with the clogged drain your downspouts run into.

Where the water comes from

The clog is usually underground.

If water pools by the house even in a light rain, your gutters usually aren't the problem. The buried drain they empty into is.

  1. 01

    Your downspouts drain underground

Most homes here run each downspout into a buried line that comes up at a pop-up 10 to 15 feet out in the yard.

  2. 02

Over the years, the pop-up disappears

Grass, mulch and silt build up until the pop-up sits lower and lower, then gets buried. The water has nowhere to go.

  3. 03

So it backs up into your gutters

The line fills, then the downspout, then the gutter. In the next downpour it spills over right at your foundation.

Where your downspout meets the ground is where the drain line starts.
What standing water costs you: water at the slab is the main cause of foundation trouble in Texas. It washes out beds and mulch, and when it backs up at a patio or threshold it can come inside. Once it's on the ground, that damage is usually on you.

We've done whole neighborhoods.

Homes built at the same time share the same buried drains, so one yard usually tells us what the whole street needs. Owners Garett Larson and Jason Jarvis stand behind every job.

Questions

Good to know.

Will my insurance cover this kind of water damage?

Every policy is different, so check yours. In most cases, water that reaches the house from the ground is treated as flood water, which a standard homeowner policy doesn't cover. That's why we'd rather keep it moving.

Will this stop my gutters overflowing?

If the drains are the cause, yes, and they usually are. If it's the gutters or the slope of the yard, we'll show you and tell you straight.

What if a drain line is collapsed?

Clearing works on lines that are intact. If one has collapsed, we'll show you where and quote the repair.
